Goldmund’s New Loudspeakers Are Designed for Hardcore Audiophiles | hoobae

Goldmund is a leading Swiss audio manufacturer that creates sophisticated (and extraordinarily expensive) loudspeakers that are nearly impossible to purchase for the average consumer. For example, the flagship Gaia active loudspeakers retail for approximately half a million bucks while standing almost seven feet tall.

Goldmund’s most recent additions, the Rhea and Theia Passive loudspeakers, follow the same approach. Although they don’t match the outrageousness or expense of the Gaia, they are still big and likely remain an unattainable fantasy for most enthusiasts.

Striking a balance between fashion and music

The Rhea Passive and Theia Passive, like Goldmund’s other celebrated loudspeakers, are not only constructed for excellent sound quality but also as visually appealing works of art. These loudspeakers are made with extreme accuracy, combining cutting-edge technology with artistic elegance. The music they generate is spectacular, with deep, rich bass, crystal-clear highs, and an immersive listening experience that audiophiles want. Like a gorgeous sculpture, their ability to blend into any environment distinguishes them from ordinary high-performance audio equipment. Whether in a minimalist modern home or a more traditional setting, these loudspeakers are a focal point that improves the room’s overall appeal.

The Rhea Passive and Theia Passive provide much more than technical prowess; they show Goldmund’s dedication to developing goods that will stand the test of time, both sonically and visually. The design is functional and intentionally creative, with curves and finishes that convey elegance and sophistication. These loudspeakers are ideal for audiophiles who value the perfect balance of superior sound and aesthetics. They are the ideal combination of form and function, allowing listeners to enjoy the art of music and design while transforming any environment into an auditory and visual gallery.

The loudspeakers are elaborately designed. The cabinets are crafted in a way that ensures the joints remain concealed. The wavy side panels are capable of dazzling by reflecting light, as well as providing a dynamic effect, and dual-finish aluminum “further enhances their architectural presence.”

The company claims that the two sets of loudspeakers combine “timeless elegance with acoustic perfection” and promises to redefine the benchmark for form and function.

Three-way, four-way

Both the Rhea Passive and Theia Passive models claim to ‘redefine sonic realism.’ Still, a closer look reveals that they are fundamentally different loudspeakers and look pretty alike.

The Rhea Passive is a three-way passive loudspeaker, while Theia Passive is a four-way. Both possess a soft dome tweeter and a 12-inch woofer. It is also true that Rhea Passive is equipped with only one seven-inch mid-range driver, while Theia Passive possesses two (one four-inch and one six-inch). Mid-range drivers are quite the investment.

Based on the spec sheet, The Rhea Passive’s frequency response is 27Hz to 25kHz, while Theia Passive’s might go slightly lower with a frequency response of 20Hz to 25kHz.

Immersive listening

To guarantee optimal sound quality from each of its loudspeakers, Goldmund used its proprietary software Proteus LS, whichcalculates system impedance, volume velocity, membrane displacement, and sound pressure.”

As the brand claims, “astonishing accuracy, clarity, and a coherent soundstage that truly takes listeners is a breathtaking auditory experience,” stands out from any competitor.

Notably, Goldmund does have active versions of both the Rhea and Theia. In contrast, The Rhea Passive and The Theia Passive have three configurations – mono amplification, bi-amplification, and tri-amplification – which maximizes audiophile flexibility.

Still, pairing these speakers with a high-quality amplifier does make a difference, as Goldmund states. They say that using lesser amplifiers will “struggle to command [the loudspeakers’] ultra-fast drivers, resulting in lost control and fidelity.”

Goldmund Price and Availability: What You Need to Know

Both Goldmund’s loudspeakers, the Rhea Passive and the Theia Passive, are available now and will surely be anything but cheap.

The Goldmund Rhea Passive stands out at 108,000usd a pair while supposedly selling Theia Passive for roughly 215,000usd a pair.
