Bang & Olufsen has repaired and re-issued one of their most iconic turntables, the Beogram 4000, which was originally introduced in the early 1970s.
It was a collaboration with Saint Laurent, the luxury French fashion label, and it was unique in that the two took the original turntables and upgraded them with updated components and new wood and metal accents. Only ten were produced, and they were valued at a cool $35,000.
Fast forward to today, and the renowned Danish audio manufacturer is doing something similar with another of its antique turntables, the Beogram 3000. Only this time, it isn’t a collaborative effort, and they’re going to make them (little) more achievable.
Bang & Olufsen Beosystem 3000c
A 1985 revival
The Bang & Olufsen Beogram 3000c is a modern revival of a classic design. This updated model pays homage to the original Beogram 3000, which first debuted in 1985. Renowned for its sleek aesthetics and cutting-edge technology of its time, the Beogram 3000 quickly became an icon in the world of high-fidelity audio equipment.
In creating the Beogram 3000c, Bang & Olufsen focused on carefully repairing and upgrading key components. The goal was to retain the timeless style and charm of the original while improving performance and durability to meet today’s standards. This blend of vintage design with modern engineering makes the Beogram 3000c stand out.
The upgrades include enhanced mechanical parts and refined electronics, ensuring the turntable delivers high-quality sound and reliable operation. Despite these improvements, the Beogram 3000c preserves the minimalist and elegant look that made the original model so beloved by audiophiles and collectors alike.
Overall, the Beogram 3000c represents a thoughtful fusion of past and present. It allows enthusiasts to experience a piece of audio history, now improved for modern listening, while honoring Bang & Olufsen’s legacy of innovation and design excellence.
The turntable features B&O’s tangential tonearm, first introduced on the Beogram 4000, which remains exactly perpendicular to the record at all times. (The tonearm is entirely automatic and moves inward as the record is played.)
“The Beogram 3000 brought Bang & Olufsen’s pioneering tangential tracking technology into a more compact and electronically automated form,” according to the manufacturer’s press statement. “Its floating appearance and refined control panel made it a design icon of its time.”
Vintage turntables with modern craftsmanship.
The Beogram 3000c is the most recent addition to Bang & Olufsen’s Recreated Classics lineup, which also includes the Beogram 4000c.
These turntables, like the others in the series, are not brand-new; Bang & Olufsen purchased vintage Beogram 3000 machines and modified them. The Beogram 3000c maintains the original turntable design while upgrading it with modern craftsmanship.
According to the brand, the turntable has a precision-machined solid walnut rear cover, a new aluminum control panel, a dust lid, fabric cables, and a pickup cartridge that is future-ready. Many of the original aluminum components were remanufactured (and “finished in pearl-blasted and brushed treatments”) at Bang & Olufsen’s Factory 5 in Denmark.
Paired with stereo speakers
Bang & Olufsen does not sell the Beogram 3000c separately; rather, it is included with the Beosystem 3000c. This “system” consists of the Beogram 3000c and the company’s high-end wireless active speaker system, the Beolab 8, which costs $7,200.
The wireless speakers and turntable have identical walnut lamellas and pearl-blasted metal shells. Bang & Olufsen claims to produce a “deep, dynamic sound,” whether you’re listening to vinyl or streaming audio directly to the speakers.
Limited to 100
Like the Beogram 4000c, which was limited to only ten models, Bang & Olufsen’s Beosystem 3000c will not be mass-produced.
In actuality, just 100 sets, each individually numbered, will be offered.
