Pro-Ject Launches Budget Turntable With Audiophile Sound | hoobae

Many of today’s “entry-level” turntables are geared toward modern vinyl enthusiasts. They have integrated components and current features, making setup and listening easy.

Pro-Ject’s latest entry-level turntable is unique.  The E1.2 is intended to provide excellent sound at an exceptionally low cost while simultaneously giving the listener a pleasantly retro vinyl experience.

The Pro-Ject E1.2 is the Austrian hi-fi manufacturer’s most recent entry-level belt-drive turntable; it’s a new and improved version of the E1 turntable, which was introduced in 2022.

According to the brand, the E1.2 is a turntable designed with the same ethos (and appearance) as its original 1991 release, the Pro-Ject 1. It boasts a basic design and high-quality components, including a strong plinth, an innovative tonearm, and a weighty platter, and promises to produce superb sound.

Experience True Vinyl Sound

The Pro-Ject E1.2 turntable lacks many modern features and conveniences, giving it an old-school feel. It lacks a built-in phono preamplifier, so you’ll need to purchase one (Pro-Ject offers numerous inexpensive ones). This allows the listener more freedom and flexibility in customizing their vinyl system.

There is also no Bluetooth or USB, which are features found in many modern devices. This means you can’t stream vinyl to a wireless speaker or headphones. It also doesn’t allow you to digitize your records.

Furthermore, the E1.2 is a fully manual turntable, requiring you to physically place the stylus on the record at the beginning and then remove it at the end — there is no button or mechanism to do this for you.

This requires you to pay more attention to the record while it plays, which feels very traditional.

Hi-Fi System Upgrades

According to Pro-Ject, the E1.2 is significantly improved over its predecessor, the E1, which was released in 2022.

It boasts a heavier primary platter with an aluminum die-cast design and a built-in TPE dampening ring, which promises to reduce undesired vibrations and provide more precise playback.

The new E1.2 uses the same glass-fibre-reinforced ABS sub-platter as Pro-Ject’s higher-end Debut turntable line.

Additionally, Pro-Ject upgraded the cartridge on the E1.2. Instead of the Audio Technica AT 3600 L that came with the E1, the E1.2 uses Pro-Ject’s proprietary Pick it MM E cartridge, which the manufacturer claims “offers precise tracking, smooth tonal balance, and reduced distortion.”

Pro-Ject Turntable: Pricing and Availability Details

The Pro-Ject E1.2 comes in three finishes: high-gloss black, satin white, and walnut.

The turntable is now available in Europe for £249 or €329 (roughly $335). Henley Audio, a hi-fi retailer based in the United Kingdom, will be the sole distributor.
