For the first time in years, an amplifier manufacturer modernizes its flagship streaming device, signifying a significant update from the well-known audio brand.
Bluesound can be thought of as a high-end competitor to Sonos.
The Canadian hi-fi startup is well-known for its Node wireless streamers, Powernode streaming amplifiers, and BluOS multi-room streaming platform.
Many hi-fi manufacturers, including NAD, PSB Speakers, Peachtree, and DALI, produce streaming components that function within their audio environment.
Bluesound revamped its Node line of wireless streamers this summer, introducing three new models: the Node Nano, an upgraded Node, and the Node Icon, the company’s flagship offering.
It is now presenting a new and better version of its Powernode streaming amplifier, which was released in 2021.
Familiar streamer debuts upgraded amplifier
Bluesound isn’t doing too much with its distinctive streaming amplifier. The Powernode 2025 variant has a similar design (and name), and it also functions similarly.
The Powernode, like its predecessor, is a wireless streamer and amplifier. It powers passive loudspeakers and streams high-resolution audio (up to 24-bit/192Hz) via Wi-Fi to them.
It uses the BluOS multi-room audio platform but also supports Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz, as well as AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth (aptX Adaptive) streaming.
An excellent home theatre hub
Like the 2021 model, the new Powernode includes a wide range of inputs and outputs, allowing you to connect your turntable, CD player, or even your TV (thanks to an HDMI eARC input).
However, Bluesound has improved the new Powernode to make it a better home theatre hub, allowing you to build a larger home cinema system. It still has a subwoofer output, but there is now a third set of binding posts to support a centre channel speaker.
This means that the new Powernode can handle a 3.1-channel home cinema system. If you want to make it a 5.1-channel system, you can use BluOS Bonded Speaker Link to connect wireless rear-channel speakers like Bluesound’s Pulse Flex ($299).
A more powerful power node
The new Powernode also has a significant increase in power.
According to the brand, it boasts a redesigned circuitry design with improved signal paths, as well as the newest DirectDigital amplification and gallium nitride (GaN) transistor technology.
These enhancements enable the 2025 Powernode to deliver 100 watts per channel while in stereo mode, a significant increase from its predecessor’s 80 watts per channel.
The 2025 Powernode adds the capability for a 3.1 channel setup, which was not available in prior models. This upgrade enables the machine to deliver up to 80 watts per channel, considerably increasing its audio output capabilities.
According to Bluesound, this improvement provides “pristine, dynamic sound with virtually no distortion.” The increased power and improved configuration make the 2025 Powernode an appealing option for consumers looking for high-performance audio in a compact and versatile package.
Price and Availability
Bluesound attributes the new Powernode’s higher price to tariffs. It will cost $1,199, a significant rise from its predecessor, which cost $899 when it was introduced in June 2021.
The new Powernode will be available for pre-order starting August 12, providing audio enthusiasts an early opportunity to obtain the enhanced amplifier.
Shipping for the Powernode will begin on September 10, guaranteeing that customers do not have to wait long after placing their orders to enjoy the upgraded sound system.
Bluesound continues to offer the Powernode in classic colours while retaining a sleek and modern design. Buyers will have a choice between black and white finishes.
These familiar colour variations enable the new Powernode to seamlessly integrate into a wide range of home entertainment settings, combining visual appeal with high-performance music.
