Apple's
Best AirTag Alternative: Cheaper and Smarter Than Apple’s Tracker | hoobae

The popular brand’s latest Bluetooth tracker looks and functions similarly to Apple’s AirTag but has a few critical advantages.

Chipolo has been a popular brand in Bluetooth trackers for many years. It manufactures a variety of devices, many of which support Apple’s Find My Network and hence function similarly to AirTags. However, they are slightly less expensive.

The Chipolo Pop, the brand’s newest Bluetooth tracker, keeps many promises while providing additional benefits.

Universal Compatibility: iPhone & Android

Chipolo has produced three unique lines of Bluetooth trackers: The “One” devices are only compatible with Chipolo’s app. Its “Spot” gadgets are only compatible with Apple’s Find My network. And its “Point” devices are only compatible with Google’s Find My Device network.

The Chipolo Pop is the pinnacle of all three lines, so it works with all three applications and services right out of the box, eliminating much of the guesswork when deciding which tracker is best for you.

While you don’t have to download Chipolo’s app when setting up the Pop, you’ll want to since it unlocks a nifty feature. You can double-tap the back of the pop, and it will call your smartphone.

No Additional Accessories Needed

The Chipolo Pop is the same size and shape as the company’s current One tracker. It’s a circular tracker powered by a changeable CR2032 battery (similar to an AirTag) that can last up to a year.

Chipolo’s Pop, like the One tracker, has a keychain hole incorporated into the body, allowing you to attach it to a keyring, bag, or other personal item.

This is a notable departure from Apple’s AirTag, which requires you to purchase an additional adapter if you want to attach it to something.

Available in a Range of Stunning Colors

Chipolo, like the One, offers the Pop in various colors. This comprises blue, yellow, green, white, black, and red. You may get a tracker that matches your style or whatever you wish to connect it to.

Apple notoriously only sells AirTags in one color: white.

An Upgrade Over Other Chipolo Trackers

The Pop features a few additional benefits over the brand’s other trackers. For starters, it has a broader range. The Pop has a maximum range of 300 feet, whereas the rest of the brand’s trackers have a range of 200 feet.

The Pop also features an upgraded IP55 rating, up from IPX5. So, while not completely waterproof, it should be more durable than Chipolo’s prior trackers.

One notable downside of the Chipolo Pop over an AirTag is that it lacks Apple’s U1 chip and does not support Precision Finding. This means locating the lost tracker within 50 feet will be more difficult.

Availability and Cost Versus Apple’s AirTag

The Chipolo Pop, priced at $29, is a more premium option within Chipolo’s lineup of circular Bluetooth trackers. While it costs more than the brand’s other circular models, such as the Chipolo ONE or the Chipolo CARD, the price reflects its upgraded features and refined design.

Interestingly, the Chipolo Pop costs the same as Apple’s AirTag, making it a direct competitor in terms of features and price. This puts the two devices on the same footing in pricing, allowing buyers to base their decisions on ecosystem compatibility, feature set, and design preferences rather than just money. For those who prefer a non-Apple ecosystem or want a more versatile tracking solution, the Chipolo Pop provides a tempting option at a low price.

The Chipolo Pop is available on the company’s website or through Amazon. However, if you order directly from Chipolo, your order promises to ship roughly a week sooner.

In addition to a one-pack, you can order a four-pack of Chipolo Pop for $89, a significant discount, as each tracker comes out to $22 a pop.
