Everything We Know
Last month, H. Moser & Cie. unveiled its first boutique in the United States. Okay, sort of. In 2023, the company established a presence in New York with the debut of its “Moserland” idea. The Moserland concept, unlike its earlier boutiques in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong, was not a ground-floor retail concept. Instead, it was a private showroom and lounge that doubled as the Moser office in the United States. For the Schaffhausen-based brand’s second American presence, the Meylans have opened a new boutique in Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, collaborating with local store Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry.
Of course, this means a new boutique-exclusive version of the brand’s Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton, this time in Yellow Gold. Everything else remains identical, mainly in this divergence from the current stainless steel model. The 18-carat yellow gold case measures 40mm wide by 12.1mm tall and houses the fully skeletonized HMC 814 caliber, an automated movement with Moser’s trademark double hairspring and an enormous one-minute flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The caliber has a 72-hour power reserve, and the bridges are polished in anthracite with contrasting beveling throughout.
Unlike the steel form, which has rose gold indices and hands, this boutique edition has matching yellow gold-plated indices and hands accompanied by three-dimensional luminous Globolight inserts. The color extends across the integrated bracelet in 18-carat yellow gold, giving it a far more physical and optical presence on the wrist.
Moser’s tourbillons are frequently more water-resistant than competitors’, with this one rated at 120 meters and including a screw-down crown. If you’re daring enough, you can take it into the water. This Moser Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton, which was launched to commemorate the opening of the Silicon Valley boutique, is now available at all Moser standalone boutiques and on the company’s website. It comes in a limited edition of 17 pieces and sells for $137,500.
Our Perspective
Stephen Silver has been expanding its retail presence in recent years, as evidenced by their “The Villa” concept, which includes the new H—Moser & Cie store. The new Menlo Park, California plaza also houses an MB&F LAB and a Ulysse Nardin store. No doubt aiming to spotlight high-end independents, I’m sure the Silicon Valley tech set will be drawn to brands like this. I’m intrigued to see what other independents the jeweler may collaborate with for solo boutiques here. Conversely, Moser is seizing this opportunity to expand its boutique footprint, with new locations set to open this year in New Delhi and Seoul. With most boutiques remaining in Asia, I can reasonably believe market demand is fully sustained.
Moser rarely uses yellow gold, keeping it for exceptional editions. While the steel version remains popular due to its futuristic appeal, the gold model changes the look. Despite losing part of its avant-garde flair, the limited run of 17 pieces appeals to collectors looking for this rare combination of materials.
