What We Know So Far
Todd Snyder, a clothing manufacturer based in the United States, has just produced a new Unimatic “Modello Tre” chronograph dubbed the U3FB-TS. Todd Snyder, the watch’s designer, founder, and brand president, drew inspiration from everything from Saville Row to military uniform. The new watch leans significantly toward the latter, with a blacked-out PVD-coated stainless steel frame and an army olive dial measuring 41.5mm by 13.7mm.
The absence of a bezel gives the new U3FB-TS a more streamlined appearance. While thicker, it offers 300m of water resistance and a VK64 Meca-quartz movement. Because of the movement, the watch features an uncommon combination of a 9 o’clock subdial with a 60-minute chronograph totalizer and a 3 o’clock 24-hour time indicator.
The orange-tipped chronograph and subdial hands stand out against the dial, while the reverse-panda-style design features off-white subdials and hands. The watch comes in a limited edition of 100 pieces, each numbered.
Todd Snyder fell in love with the Unimatic brand years ago and included it on his seasonal Pinterest boards for inspiration. Nonetheless, he has only lately been able to bring collaboration to reality. The Todd Snyder x UNIMATIC Modello Tre Chronograph retails for $718 and will be available on March 6, 2025, at 9 a.m. ET, exclusively online at ToddSnyder.com and Todd Snyder’s NoMad (NYC), Williamsburg (NYC). The retail sites include The Liquor Store in New York City, The Grove in Los Angeles, and Bal Harbour Shops in Miami.
Our Thoughts
In the last year, I’ve become completely obsessed with Todd Snyder. As I sit at my desk, practically every article of clothing I wear is Todd Snyder (don’t ask what isn’t), as is almost everything I’ve worn in the last few days. Snyder is not only a long-time friend of Hodinkee’s but also one of us: a watchperson whose focus is on the design and aesthetic characteristics that make his apparel so fantastic. So, while this isn’t a glamorous movement or high-horology work, it seems purposefully “Todd” from a design standpoint.
A black-out case with olive accents is like a catnip to me. While I may not own as much military khaki as our resident olive-jacketed EIC, parts of my closet resemble an army surplus store. The olive appears intense and saturated in the brand’s pack pictures, yet it nicely complements the creamy “stone” subdials. I wasn’t planning on buying another Unimatic so soon, but I’m afraid the FOMO will hit me hard if I don’t.
